In all patterns from Athene Knitwear, you are free to choose the yarn type you prefer. The most important thing is to ensure that the yarn matches the gauge specified in the pattern. This way, you will achieve a finished result that fits the indicated measurements. However, if you choose a different yarn from the original, the final result may have a slightly different finish depending on the yarn’s properties.

For The Rookie Hat, the gauge is 14 stitches x 22 rows on 6.5 mm needles = 10 cm x 10 cm.

The pattern is available in the following sizes: XS (S) M (L), each with a head circumference of 52-54 (54-56) 56-58 (58-60) cm.

Below is an overview of our recommendations for possible yarn alternatives for The Rookie Hat.

Original yarn:

Note: If you have knitted The Everyday Sweater or The Everyday Slipover, you can use your leftover yarn for The Rookie Hat.

Materials: 1 strand of Daisy from Drops (50 g = 110 m), knitted with 1 strand of Fipa from Navia (50 g = 90 m).

In the pictures below, the following colors are used:
Daisy in color: 03 black.
Fipa in color: 1507 black.

1st alternative:

Materials: 1 strand of Daisy from Drops (50 g = 110 m), knitted with 1 strand of Mohrino from Viking Garn (50 g = 100 m).

Amount:

  • 50-100 (50-100) 50-100 (50-100) g Daisy and 50-100 (50-100) 50-100 (50-100) g Mohrino.

2nd alternative:

Note: If you have knitted The Chunky Sweater, you can use your leftover yarn for The Rookie Hat.

Materials: 1 strand of Air from Drops (50 g = approx. 150 m), knitted with 1 strand of Melody from Drops (50 g = approx. 140 m).

Amount:

  • 50-100 (50-100) 50-100 (50-100) g Air and 50-100 (50-100) 50-100 (50-100) g Melody.

3rd alternative:

Note: If you have knitted The Chunky Sweater, you can use your leftover yarn for The Rookie Hat.

Materials: 1 strand of Air from Drops (50 g = approx. 150 m), knitted with 1 strand of Brushed Alpaca Silk from Drops (25 g = approx. 140 m).

Amount:

  • 50-100 (50-100) 50-100 (50-100) g Air and 25-50 (25-50) 25-50 (25-50) g Brushed Alpaca Silk.

4th alternative:

Materials: 1 strand of Easy Care Big from Mayflower (50 g = 85 m), knitted with 1 strand of Elba from Mayflower (25 g = 250 m).

Amount:

  • 50-100 (50-100) 50-100 (50-100) g Easy Care Big and 25 (25) 25 (25) g Elba.
